what pound braid should i use?

i will start using braid for bass fishing and i wonder what is the best poundage i should use? also what color? i will be fishing from shore mostly so heavy cover and weeds are a factor. i will be throwing swimbaits about 6 inches long and rapalas like 5 inches long. i will also be fishing frogs and sometimes texas rigs i was thinking 40 pound braid with 10pound mono diameter because any smaller the line can dig into the spool wich is what i have heard but i want good casting and good line capacity. i have a quantum response baitcaster that says it holds 125 yards of 12pound mono if that helps so.

You can use a lighter braid if you want. In order to keep it from cutting in to your spool, just put a bit of mono on the spool first, then spool on the the braid. I would get a 2# diameter braid just because in my experience, bass are line shy and the heavier braids don’t keep the action on the lure going very well.
